Nova Scotia's premier is asking residents working from home with children in daycare to give up their spots temporarily.
Speaking at Wednesday's COVID-19 briefing, Iain Rankin said he's hopeful the children of essential workers could fill those spots while the lockdown is on.
"The province will cover the cost and ensure after the shutdown is over and schools reopen, you will get your space back," he said.
According to Rankin, they are only asking parents who are working from home and do not need to leave their house, to give up their spot.
Rankin says he doesn't want frontline health care workers to worry about childcare and he doesn't want people who give up their space to worry about whether or not they'll get it back.
The province will release the details on this measure in the coming days.
This all comes as Nova Scotia implemented a two-week lockdown on Wednesday to curb surging COVID-19 cases.
