In a 52 second YouTube video posted to the Nova Scotia government's page, the Trailer Park Boys star and his buddy Ricky convince a hesitant Julian to "end this sh*t" by going to an appointment.
At a COVID-19 briefing Tuesday, Dr. Robert Strang said the province would be using a new communications strategy to encourage a younger Nova Scotians to get immunized.
"We recognize we need to do more communication and we're working on some innovative, more social media-based ways," said the province's chief medical officer of health. "That is how people in those age groups really get their information."
"We've got a range of actors, musicians etcetera, people that young people would recognize as fellow Nova Scotians and perhaps listen to them more than they'd listen to me," he added.
Strang said in the past, younger people, especially males, have been overall less likely to take advantage of health services.
However he added, so far, there appears to be a high number of Nova Scotians in all demographics booking vaccines, including those in their 20s and 30s.
On Tuesday, the province lowered the eligibility age for mRNA vaccines to 20 and it's expected all Nova Scotians over the age of 12 will be able to book an appointment by the end of the month.
As of the end of Monday, May 24, about 48.2 per cent of Nova Scotians have had one or more doses of the vaccine.
