Choice of Pfizer or Moderna No Longer as Appointments Now Based on Vaccine Availability: Haggie - VOCM

People booking new appointments for the COVID vaccine are no longer guaranteed their jab of choice.

The province has changed how clinic appointments are made so they’re based on known vaccine delivery.

The new mRNA clinics will have both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, but which one you get will depend on its availability.

Health Minister John Haggie says it will prevent people from showing up only to find no vaccine for them.

As for the differences between the two vaccines, Haggie believes there are none. He says he and Dr. Janice Fitzgerald trust the science that says the two are equivalent but added no one will be forced to take one or the other.

Haggie says it’s a consent issue that can be discussed with possible re-booking when the desired vaccine is available.

Meanwhile, Eastern Health is apologizing for the frustration caused by its booking system last week.

People who had appointments received emails saying they were cancelled without explanation; it was all in an effort to move up appointments due to an increase in vaccine supply.

Eastern Health cited a system issue that prevented them from keeping some appointments while cancelling and rebooking others.

Adblock test (Why?)
