Ontario is reporting 699 new COVID-19 cases and 9 additional deaths on Tuesday.
It is the smallest daily increase in cases since before the peak of the second wave. The province last reported fewer cases on Oct. 18.
It is also the second straight day with fewer than 1,000 cases, something that Ontario hasn’t seen since early March.
The province is reporting a test positivity rate of 3.6 per cent, down from 4.3 a day ago. The positivity rate was 6.2 per cent one week ago.
There were 20,262 tests completed in the last 24-hour period, up from 18,226 completed tests a day ago. Testing numbers are typically down early in the week on Monday and Tuesday.
Locally, there are 207 new cases in Toronto, 144 in Peel, 52 in York Region and 50 in Durham.
The province reported 916 new cases and 13 deaths on Monday.
There are now 804 people hospitalized in the province with 583 in the ICU. Hospitalizations are down more than 200 since one week ago while ICU numbers have dropped more than 100.
It is the first time ICU patients have dropped below 600 since Apr. 10.
There were 120,195 COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the last 24-hour period.
As of 8:00 p.m. Monday, 9,202,220 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered.

Premier Doug Ford says an announcement on whether to reopen schools to in-person learning will be made within the next day or two.
Ford sent a note to various stakeholders Thursday, including the advisory tables, health officials, school boards and teachers, asking for advice on whether it would be safe to reopen for in-person learning.
In response to Ford’s open letter issued last week, Ontario’s COVID-19 Science Advisory Table said Saturday they believe schools can reopen safely on a regional basis for in-person learning for the last month of the school year.
The province signaled on Friday that despite improving circumstances across the province, it’s unlikely that Ontario will move ahead with reopening before Step 1 of the plan that is set to commence on June 14.
“We’re going to be opening up but we’re going to be opening up cautiously and carefully, very cautiously and very carefully because I do not want to happen what happened before and all of a sudden the cases go up,” said Ford.
