The vacant Costco site in Regina will soon be buzzing with people once again after Regina's city council approved development of a car dealership Wednesday.
Neher & Associates, on behalf of Olympic Motors, has applied to the city for permission to redevelop the former Costco Wholesale site at 665 University Park Drive into a Regina Auto Gallery car dealership.
The application requires city council to give discretionary use approval. Council voted unanimously to approve it. The site became vacant when Costco Wholesale moved to 2110 Anaquod Road.
The proposed 15,410 square metre area will have both indoor and outdoor retail for the dealership. The outdoor retail will include 277 stalls for outdoor displays and 248 parking stalls for customers and staff.

William Neher, with Neher & Associates, appeared virtually at council on behalf of Olympic Motors. He said the car dealership would not make any modifications to the exterior of the building besides signage.
He said the dealership will also take steps to stop people from cutting through the parking lot to go from University Park Drive to Star Lite Street, including expanded rumble strips.
"There will also be more prominent signage and marking of the area to to indicate that there, in fact, may be a pedestrian traffic going back and forth and also to control the speed once upon the property," Neher said.
