B.C. records 267 COVID-19 cases over the weekend, including 115 in Interior Health - News 1130

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The number of daily COVID-19 cases are back below the triple digits in B.C.

The province recorded 94 new cases on Saturday, 79 on Sunday, and another 94 on Monday, for a total of 267 over the weekend.

These figures follow Friday’s report of 112 new infections, which was nearly triple the number of cases reported one week ago.

The Interior Health region continues to report the most new and active cases, with 115 and 342, respectively.

Fraser Health recorded 48 new infections over the weekend, while Vancouver Coastal Health reported 41. Island Health had 18 new infections and Northern Health recorded five.

The number of active cases province-wide has risen to 695, compared to Friday’s 603. However, there are now fewer people hospitalized with the virus, down from 46 to 43 over the weekend. The number of patients in the ICU is unchanged at 17.

One death was recorded over the weekend in the Northern Health region, for a province-wide total of 1,768 since the pandemic began.

The province says 61.3 per cent of eligible British Columbians are now fully vaccinated. The percentage of those aged 12 and up with at least their first dose has slowed, but also continues to rise and now sit at 80.6 per cent.

Since December 2020, the Province has administered 6,584,264 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.
