The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is recalling a brand of food seasoning due to possible salmonella contamination.
The recall was issued on July 27 and affects Frank’s RedHot brand Buffalo Ranch Seasoning from the marketplace.
An investigation by the CFIA showed the product to be contaminated and is verifying that the item is removed from the marketplace.
No illnesses have been reported so far.
The affected products were sold and distributed throughout Canada mainly in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan.
Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.
According to CFIA, food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make people sick. People with weakened immune systems, young children, pregnant women and the elderly may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections from salmonella contamination.
Short-term symptoms due to salmonella include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term symptoms may include arthritis.
Those who have the product should not consume it and are being told to contact their doctor if they become sick from it.
