The London-area recorded a double-digit increase in COVID-19 cases on Thursday as Ontario registered its biggest one-day caseload hike in months.

There were 15 new cases in London and surrounding Middlesex County, bringing the local pandemic total to 12,889. It’s one of several days in the past week that local numbers have reached double-digits as COVID-19 spread continues, largely among unvaccinated residents.
Per local statistics, 81.4 per cent of eligible local citizens (ages 12 and older) have one COVID-19 vaccine shot, and 69.7 per cent have the recommended two shots.
London and Middlesex County has recorded 231 virus-related deaths during the pandemic, the most recent in late July.
Provincewide, Ontario reported 513 new cases on Thursday, with no new deaths. According to Public Health Ontario, 71.4 per cent of the new cases were among unvaccinated patients.

It’s the highest case total since mid-June and is based on 22,896 tests done in the previous day.
Additionally, 49,167 vaccine doses were administered in the province in the 24-hour period ending Wednesday evening, for a province-wide total of 20,047,911. A total of 9,456,663 Ontarians have been fully vaccinated, an increase of 38,031 over the previous day’s total.
