Those who flout the new proof system and try to enter these non-essential businesses could be slapped with fines comparable to not wearing a mask indoors, ranging from $1,000 to $6,000.
On Wednesday, Quebecers with Apple products could upload the QR codes they received as part of the vaccination documents to a new application called VaxiCode, which will register three pieces of personal information contained in the QR code: name, date of birth and vaccination status. The app will be available to Android users before Sept. 1, with an English-language version to be released soon, according to the province.
Businesses will need to download an app called VaxiCode Vérif to scan and verify the QR codes.
But what about Ottawans and other out-of-province visitors looking to grab a bite or take in a show in La Belle Province? While they can’t use the VaxiCode app, they must show proof of vaccination from their respective governments, along with a proof of address to enter spaces subject to Quebec’s vaccine passport.
